„I don’t create images to be understood.
I create spaces where something can surface.“

about me

I’m Andrea, an abstract artist based in Mexico, where I live with my family.

I studied art and cultural science and have always been interested in how art can change the way we see things.
I started painting with acrylics on large canvases, allowing the process to develop intuitively.

In 2017/18, something happened that eventually became the beginning of Flash for empathy.

At the time, I felt that the world around me was becoming harder and more superficial.
I wanted to express that feeling through a painting, so I started with a colorful, abstract head.

But something didn’t felt right. Something was missing. So I painted three black bars across it.
I’m still not entirely sure why.

But that changed everything.

The bars felt like a sign. A moment to stop. A moment of silence. A step back from everything happening
around us and a reminder to listen to what is happening within us.

I was listening to Billy idol’s Flash for fantasy while painting, as I often listen to music when I work. I love Music.
Suddenly, the name of the painting became clear:

F l a s h f o r e m p a t h y

That painting became the first work in what grow into the Flash for empathy universe.

what Flash for empathy means to me

For me, a flash is that brief moment when something becomes clear.
A realization.
A feeling of recognition.
Something you may have known somewhere inside, but suddenly see differently.

And empathy starts with ourselves.

The more honestly we recognize and understand what is happening within us,
the more space we create to understand others.

This is what I explore through my work.

I paint inner states, change, resistance, uncertainty and transformation,
things we all experience, but often struggle to put into words.

I don’t paint to tell you what you should feel.
I paint to make something visible that you might recognize from within yourself.

my work today

After moving to Mexico, my way of working changed. Without a traditional studio, I could no longer work
with canvases and acrylic paint as I had before.
I had to find another way.

Digital painting began as a practical solution. Over time, it became a new way of working
that opened up possibilities I continue to explore today.

My paintings are abstract because I’m not interested in depicting a specific person, place or emotion.

I’m interested in what happens underneath.

The moments when something no longer feels right. When an old way of seeing begins to change.
When something breaks open and, slowly, something new begins to take shape.

Perhaps that’s why I keep coming back to the same question:

What happens within us when we change?

I don’t think art needs to answer that question. Sometimes, it’s enough for it to make us pause.
To notice. To recognize something and find our way back to ourselves.

Everything you are looking for is already within you.

My Artistic journey

My path from painting on canvas to creating digital art was not something I had planned.
It began with a change in my life and gradually opened up a new way of expressing the ideas behind my work.

Curious about how that journey unfolded?
